Source: Universal Pictures
Tremors, the 1990 American monster film, has become a cult classic over the years. The movie features giant, worm-like creatures that terrorize a small desert town in Nevada. With its mix of humor, suspense, and horror,
Tremors has entertained audiences for decades. Here are five fun facts about the movie that you might not know.
1. Beneath Perfection
The original title for the movie was “Beneath Perfection.” However, the producers thought that the title didn’t sound exciting enough, so they changed it to “Tremors.” The new title was inspired by the seismic activity caused by the creatures in the movie.
2. Lone Pine
Tremors was filmed in the small town of Lone Pine, California. The town was chosen because of its desert landscape, which was perfect for the movie’s setting. The production crew built a fake town called “Perfection” for the movie, which has become a popular tourist attraction for fans of the film.
3. From R to PG-13
“Tremors” was originally slated for a November 1989 release but was delayed and edited from an R to a PG-13 rating by reducing strong language, leading to its January 1990 release, a decision the creators were ultimately pleased with for broadening the film’s audience.
4. Ending Swap
The original ending for Tremors was much darker than the one that made it to the final cut. In the original ending, the character of Earl, played by Fred Ward, sacrifices himself to lure the creatures into a nearby canyon and kills them with a homemade bomb.
However, the producers thought that the ending was too bleak and reshot it to have a more upbeat and hopeful conclusion. The new ending showed the remaining characters defeating the creatures and driving off into the sunset.
5. Almost No Bacon
Kevin Bacon, who played the lead role of Valentine McKee in the movie, almost didn’t take the role. Initially hesitant to take on a horror movie, he changed his mind after reading the script. Bacon has since called Tremors one of his favorite movies ever made.
