Reasons to Watch
Day of the Beast (El día de la bestia) is the Christmas classic out of Spain we didn’t know we needed! This film takes a direct shot at the holiday in a hilarious way that might even be seen as a little controversial. Follow a priest and a heavy metal record store owner on a journey to stop the coming of the Anti-Christ on Christmas Eve. Oh, and in order to find the location of the next antichrist, the priest must get close to the Devil; how does he plan on doing this, you ask? He must commit as many sins as possible!
This storyline allows for some great dark humor moments, social criticism, and a surprising amount of action from beginning to end. Spanish director Álex de la does a great job of ensuring the apocalyptic tone isn’t lost in the humor.
The setting of this film is also very gritty and has a real feel. These aren’t the parts of Spain you will visit on vacation. This Spanish cult classic is completely unique and worth a watch!
