Reasons to Watch
Infested is a refreshing take on the spider invasion genre, with a surprising amount of emotional drama. The film starts a little slow, but it does an excellent job of introducing us to characters who feel real and whose environment feels authentic. Once the movie really gets going, it has a similar feel to films like “REC.” and other quarantine-type films.
Once the cast realizes they’re trapped, the tension in their interpersonal relationships is amplified, and you really get to see them flex their acting abilities. You truly feel for the characters and their situation.
There are also many memorable and creative scenes with the spiders that really keep you on edge. Sneaking past calm but deadly spiders and sprinting from hordes of hundreds is a really good time when it’s executed this well.
Sébastien Vanicek really did a great job directing this film, giving it a gritty urban feel that adds to its overall terror. Can’t wait to see his take on the Evil Dead spinoff. *This Film is in French*
