REC (2007): Found Footage “Zombies” Done Right
REC (2007) directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, is a great pandemic film that takes place in an apartment building in Barcelona. The film follows a television reporter and her cameraman as they document the lives of the residents of the building.
However, things quickly turn for the worse when they discover that a virus has broken out and turned many residents into violent, zombie-like creatures. The film is a tense and terrifying look at what can happen when a pandemic breaks out and the lengths people will go to survive.
One of the most striking things about REC is how claustrophobic the locations can be. The film takes place almost entirely in an apartment building with tight spaces and narrow hallways, which creates a sense of confinement and isolation. The characters are trapped in the building with the infected residents and must fight to survive.
Overall, REC is a fantastic horror film that is a must watch for fans of found footage films.
