Reasons to Watch
Waxwork is a horror movie for fans of horror movies. With a run time of only 95 minutes, this movie feels like a collection of six short films, making for a great movie-watching experience.
The plot is fairly simple. High school kids come across a new waxworks exhibit in their neighborhood. Naturally, they’re invited for a private tour. Throughout the tour, each exhibit acts as individual moments in history where they inject creative short horror stories.
You get a good dose of werewolves, vampires, mummies, zombies, and pretty much every horror classic you can think of. While all of the characters and monsters are fairly stereotypical, that is where this film’s charm lies. The monsters are just as bloody, brutal, and over-the-top as they should be.
While this film is no horror masterpiece story-wise, its practical effects are very impressive for the time and hold up pretty well when watched in 2024. The ending is also incredibly satisfying and chaotic, but you would expect nothing less from a film like this, check it out.
