“The Sixth Sense” is a classic psychological thriller that has captivated audiences since its release in 1999. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment. Here are five fun facts about “The Sixth Sense” that you may not have known:

1. I See Dead People

The famous line “I see dead people” was ad-libbed by Haley Joel Osment during filming. According to IMDB, Osment was supposed to say “They don’t see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don’t know they’re dead.” However, he forgot the line and improvised instead. Shyamalan loved the ad-lib and kept it in the final cut.

2. Twist on Twists

The film’s success led to a surge in the popularity of twist endings. According to an article on Screen Rant, “The Sixth Sense” was a game-changer for the thriller genre, with its twist ending setting a new standard for surprise endings. After the film’s release, many other movies tried to replicate its success by including twist endings of their own.

Some notable examples include “Fight Club,” “The Usual Suspects,” and “Memento.” The trend even spilled over into other genres, with romantic comedies and superhero movies also incorporating twist endings into their plots.

3. Red vs. Blue

The film’s iconic color scheme was intentional. Shyamalan wanted to use the color red to signify when the supernatural was present, and blue to signify when it was not. This is why red is prominent in scenes where ghosts appear, such as the red balloon that appears in Cole’s bedroom.

4. Winning

The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $672 million worldwide. According to IMDB, it was the second-highest-grossing film of 1999, behind only “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.” It was also nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

The 6th Sense is currently the 2nd highest-grossing horror movie of all time.

5. Haley

The film’s success led to a surge in demand for Haley Joel Osment. According to an article on The Guardian, Osment became one of the most in-demand child actors in Hollywood after “The Sixth Sense” was released. He went on to star in several other successful films, including “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” and “Pay It Forward.”

However, Osment later took a break from acting to attend college, and he has since returned to the industry in more supporting roles. Despite this, his performance in “The Sixth Sense” remains one of the most iconic child performances in movie history.
